What do I need to do if a Patient Dies?

Deceased patients cannot be harmed, therefore there are no safety considerations. However, it is imperative that system users undertake the necessary checks to ensure that the decease patient has any letters deleted, appointments cancelled and Electronic Questionnaires (webforms) stopped. The NHS Number should be used as the unique patient identifier wherever possible. If this is not possible, then a combination of iaptus ID, DOB and full name.

1) Update Date of Death

Update Date of Death on the Patient Registration Tab

The Patients boarding card will not

 

2) Delete any queues Letters

Delete any Pending letters including Hybrid or Electronic.  If the letters have been on the patient for more than 48hrs you will have to request your Superuser to Delete them.

3) Cancel any Future Appointments

 

 

The Clinical Contact may have Webforms (Questionnaires)  scheduled for delivery, If you would like these stopped, please raise a support log

 

4) Discharge the Patient
